2011 Concept phase - development of research areas, finding first projects, planning structural organization, property search
2012 Transition phase – founding of the GmbH (limited liability company) / operative start: After elaboration and signing of the cooperation agreements the operative starting signal for the Research Cluster AMAP was given with the first meeting of the Advisory Board on September 3rd, 2012. The initiators on part of the RWTH Aachen University were:
  • Institut für Metallurgische Prozesstechnik und Metallrecycling (Department of Process Metallurgy and Metal Recycling) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Bernd Friedrich,
  • Gießerei-Institut (Foundry Institute) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Bührig-Polaczek,
  • Institut für Bildsame Formgebung (Institute of Metal Forming) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Hirt,
  • Institut für Metallkunde und Metallphysik (Department of Physical Metallurgy and Metal Physics) with Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. h.c. Günter Gottstein.
  • In addition, six further RWTH institutes of the Aluminium Engineering Center AEC e.V. are involved indirectly.
From industry the following companies got involved: ALERIS, FORD, HYDRO, MAGMA, MUBEA, NEMAK, NOVELIS, SIMUFACT, SMS-GROUP and TRIMET
2013 Growth phase - participation of the company CONSTELLIUM as a new industrial partner of the Research Cluster AMAP, move-in and kick-off meeting of the project teams in the rooms of AMAP GmbH
from 2016 relocation to a building of the CAMPUS WEST of RWTH Aachen and continuous growth
