Our Profile

Who we are, what we do

01 / Who are we?

One cluster, one site

  • 13 industrial companies and 6 institutes of RWTH Aachen University make up the AMAP consortium.
  • All partners agree on a pre-competitive goal — the foundation of successful project work.
  • Project staff from industry and academia work actively, across disciplines, at one physical location in Aachen.
02 / What do we do?

Research along the chain

  • A holistic research approach along the value chain "from raw material to component" for innovations in aluminium.
  • Fundamental and applied R&D for aluminium, its alloys, and new process technologies.
  • Projects initiated through cross-disciplinary, pre-competitive collaboration between industry, institutes, and end users.
03 / What do we offer?

Access & exchange

  • An open partnership across organisational boundaries fosters cooperation, innovation, and know-how.
  • Joint implementation of project results in clearly defined fields of work.
  • Colloquia, workshops, and the AMAP Forum as a platform for members and interested parties.

Our Competences

Four fields, one value chain

Competences within the AMAP cluster cover the entire chain — from metallurgical process engineering through product and material development to manufacturing technology and supporting modelling. This combination allows challenges to be addressed along the full material flow, not in isolation.

  • Metallurgical process engineering — production, recycling, alloy development
  • Product & material development — new alloys, property profiles
  • Manufacturing technology — forming, casting, joining, surface treatment
  • Modelling & simulation — process and material models, digital twins
